Ithaca College VITA

The Ithaca College VITA program had two parts one was working downtown at Alternatives Federal Credit Union with tax returns on an appointment and walk in basis. Most of these returns were simple and only had W2’s and interest statements However sometimes the returns downtown were complicated and included self-employment income and business use of home which required me to know how to use two different pieces of software MyFreeTaxes and Taxwise. This helped was a good learning experience because it gave me experience with two very different tax softwares.
On campus I prepared about 6 returns for Professors and other faculty. This was a very different experience because for the most part these returns were significantly more complicated than the ones I was doing down at Alternatives. Also these returns took longer to do because often you were waiting on additional information from the individual so that the return could be completed.
